Before Filming.

Before we begin filming, we have to fully schedule when everyone in our group and everyone who is acting for us can also film. We also need to decide who is doing the filming at certain parts, and we need to make a script. During the film trailer, the script won't be too in depth, as most film trailers don't have much dialogue, which creates a sense of unknown which makes the audience want to watch the film that is coming out. We want to create an atmosphere of suspense, tension and horror through our film trailer to entice the audience. Therefore we all need to establish a 'horror-esque' script for our trailer.

RE: Filming Schedule.

Our filming schedule has been set back as we have to work around all three of us working. We need to get in touch with our cast and then arrange times that we will be able to film. this will be posted in due course.

LIONSGATE films

The closest product to our trailer is the Saw films. These films were generated by a production company called LIONSGATE films. It is the next big film production company that has a major presence in the production of movies, television programs, home entertainment and video on demand.
The production companies most successful product is a film called "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail" which made $41 million in its opening weekend. Other massive box office hits are My Bloody Valentine 3D, Religious Forbidden Kingdom, Rambo, The Bank Job and The Saw Films. LIONSGATE has made, produced and distributed over 12,000 different films and television titles that serves as the foundation for the growth of the company's business.

Mise en Scene

The other day we went out and took pictures of the location we intend on using for our film trailer. We decided to use a public bridleway which is eerie and enclosed by trees and walls. The bridleway will be the place where the girl walks up as if she is walking home. We have used one of our houses to mark her house in the trailer. The bus stop will be used to wear the clown will be sat waiting for the girl with leaflets for the circus. We are also using a garage which has a dark ambience to it and will be a sinister setting once added with the characters and music etc. We found these locations convenient and suitable as they are near where we all live, this will make it easy to film and more accessible at many different times.

Casting

For our casting we did a series of auditions for the various parts of the circus freaks and the main protaganist. We made a decision to use a 16 year old girl called Hazel Cooper who has previous acting experience, we decided to dismiss another girl due to lack of acting experience. For our circus freaks we have decided to use Bradley from our group as we couldn't find a suitable candidate. Bradley will play the part of the main clown, a girl called Chloe who will play another circus freak. We still have to cast one more circus freak and the girls friends, however this should be easy to do as they won't have any speaking parts.

Cast List

Clown - Bradley Judge

Girl - Hazel Cooper

Institutions

Researching in to Saw again, i looked into the company that distributed all six Saw films are Evolution Entertainment. They are an independent film production company based in America publishing different accredited films. The company was first started by Mark Burg and Oren Koules who have published many films however they are best known for the Saw films, other films that they have published include:

Spoils of War
Lockdown
Good Advice
John Q
Saw
Saw II
Saw III
Catacombs
Dead Silence
Death Sentence
Saw IV
Saw V
Saw VI
Saw VII

These films are not that popular however after they brought out the Saw films the production company has got more accredited and is now a growing company.

Ident

We designed this ident playing on the fact we are making a horror film. 'Blood Bath Productions' is the name of our company which reflected the idea of the horror genre. The blood splatters are a simple way of showing an audience what type of company we are and the type of audience we are trying to target. Also the blood splatters are a universal sign so people around the world can recognise the symbolism in our ident.
To design our ident we used Adobe Illustrator CS5, it was really easy to use and had a wide range of different brush strokes and colours.

Research - Saw (film)

We decided to research the film Saw as it gave us our main inspiration. The basic plot of Saw follows the life of a man through different sequels torturing and giving last chances to people who have abused life. He does this because he wants to teach them the meaning of life itself.

Saw movie logo.jpg
'The franchise revolves around the fictional character of John Kramer, also called the "Jigsaw Killer" or simply "Jigsaw", introduced briefly in Saw and in more detail in Saw II, who, rather than killing his victims outright, traps them in situations which he calls "tests" or "games", to test their will to live via physical or psychological torture. Despite the fact that Kramer was murdered in Saw III, the films continue to focus on the posthumous effects of the Jigsaw Killer and his apprentices by exploring his character via flashbacks.'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saw_(series)

Our film is similar to the Saw sequels as it does revolve around a character like the "Jigsaw Killer" however it is not just one character there are a group of circus freaks who want to teach society a lesson.

'Flashbacks from Saw IV reveal the earliest roots of the series, presenting John Kramer as a successful civil engineer and devoted husband to his wife Jill Tuck, who opened a rehab clinic for drug addicts. Jill lost her unborn baby, Gideon, due to the unwitting actions of a drug addict named Cecil, who fled the scene. Saw VI later showed that another drug addict, Amanda Young, also had an unintentional role in the death of Gideon. John grieved over the loss of his child, and distanced himself from his friends and his wife.'

Like in this part of the film we will also show the upbringing of our villain showing his psychological change through his life. We will show his treatment at home, school and by society and how this contributes to make him a savaged man.

The difference between our film and the Saw films is that we're not using specific people to teach a lesson but by using one person to reflect on the whole of society, this is shown through the mediums of flashback, present day and looks on the future and how corrupt it would be if people carried on treating people in a discriminative way.

Target Audience

Our target audience for this film is age 18 - 25. We decided on this target audience as our film is not appropriate for any younger age. Also this age range consists of the most popular cinema goers. Because it is such a wide age range we have to make sure we appeal to everyone including the different classes e.g. A - Upper Middle Class B - Middle Class C1 - Lower Middle Class C2 - Skilled working class etc. However we think will appeal most to the class B, C1 and possibly C2. Because most of us are in this age range we should be able to develop a quality production.

Treatment

Treatment

For our media practical production we are going to choose the option of creating a film trailer. We decided to choose this because we felt that it was the best option for our group. Our group consists of 3 people that all have good ideas, which we can culminate to make a quality production. We have decided to call our company “
For our film trailer we are developing a storyline based upon rejected members of society who have joined a circus freak show and want to punish people who don’t appreciate life. The genre of our film is horror/thriller and it aims to be a certificate 18. We have chosen this genre as is it most popular within our target audience age range and as we are around the same age this not only interests us but we also know what our target audience would want.
Our film is influenced by the film Saw as it loosely relates to the story line, it relates to the story line as the ‘jigsaw’ man in Saw wants to teach people the meaning of life, and so from that we have developed our own storyline which gives the same moral as Saw.
We want to achieve a trailer that will hook and excite our target audience; we will do this by letting on part of the storyline but then also hold the audience in anticipation. This is a key feature of what film trailers do and so by doing research we will cleverly craft a trailer featuring a memorable cliffhanger.
We are all very excited about creating this production because not only will it be fun to make we think that it is a good idea and would appeal to our target audience as an accredited film.

LOCATION

There are quite a few locations to our trailer as it is little snippets from the film, and in most films including ours they do change location. The first location will be a park or a communal area where our protagonist in the film and her friends are hanging out. Then we will se her walking also a main street where she refuses the flyer given by a circus clown. The next sequence will be shot in the woods as the girl is walking home. The final location will be in a dark room or an abandoned place where only the clowns face is shown saying “welcome to the circus!”

COSTUME

Throughout our film trailer the girl will remain in the same outfit, as it will all happen in one day, just normal casual dress. Her friends will also be dressed with the same sort of casual look, like many girls would dress on a weekend. The clown to start with will be in a stereotypical clown outfit whilst advertising the circus, which is coming to town. However as the trailer progresses and the sinister outlook comes across over the clown, his face paint will change to a more horrific clown style, and his clothes will become ripped and tattered as if reflecting his psychological state.

PROPS

In our trailer we will need to have props such as flyers which are handed to the girl in the street and possibly a weapon of some form, such as a knife/axe. We are sure when it comes to filming this, that more props will need to be used, such as face paint, but we will establish this when we storyboard our trailer.

Introduction

For our advanced media portfolio we decided to develop a horror movie trailer. We chose this as we thought that we could explore plenty of experimentation and a wide range of ideas. We will get inspiration from other films that are similar to our idea, and from that create our own unique trailer.
